Prof Nishara Fernando
Dr. Nishara Fernando is a senior lecturer attached to the Department of Sociology of the Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. He was designated as the Head of said department in January 2018 and rendered his services in this position until February 2021. He has also been serving as the Director of the Social Policy Analysis and Research Centre [SPARC] at the University of Colombo since 2019. He received his PhD in Human Geography from University of Bonn, Germany in 2010, writing and publishing on the timely cum critical topic of forced relocation following the Indian Ocean Tsunami, 2004. He has authored and co-authored a number of academic publications on the areas of Conflict, Development and Disaster Induced Displacement and its Impact on Relocation and Resettlement, Youth and Education, Social Vulnerability and Vulnerability Assessments, Livelihoods Development of Urban and Rural marginalized groups, Community Based Monitoring Systems, Vulnerable Children and Voluntarism.
